Carrara Overlay Development Works – Metricon Stadium

The objective of the project was to temporarily transform the existing AFL compliant Carrara Stadium and adjacent Elite Fields into an IAAF compliant athletics track & field competition and warm-up facility. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ (GC2018) were held from the 4th to 15th of April 2018 on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. This global sporting event saw approximately 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 nations and territories compete over 11 days in 17 sports and para sports before a cumulative television audience of over one billion people and hundreds of thousands of spectators. Cockram were selected to provide the Overlay Development Works for the Carrara Stadium (Metricon). The Stadium hosted the spectacular opening and closing ceremonies of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, as well the track & field events of the Athletics sport program.
